Guide: Al López

As you explore Mission San Francisco de Asís—the oldest building in the city—you’ll learn about the Native Americans who built the mission in 1791, the mission’s historical artworks, and how it survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. Visit the adjacent Basilica and learn about its stained glass windows and the Seven Sorrows. A walk around the mission cemetery features stories about its interred residents, including Gold Rush settlers and vigilante victims. Note: A donation is required to enter the mission ($7 adults/$3 seniors).

Al López has led tours of Mission Dolores for many years, sharing his knowledge and love of the area’s history.
