MONTHLY PROGRAM

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the San Francisco-owned and operated Hetch Hetchy Power System, which generates and delivers 100 percent greenhouse-gas–free hydroelectricity to San Francisco. But how did the system―which powers some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, including our streetlights, libraries, schools, and parks―get its start? Join us for a tale of politics, ingenuity, and the San Francisco spirit as we explore the historic system and contemplate San Francisco’s clean energy future.

Mike Housh, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Archivist/Historian, is the past Secretary of the SFPUC and the San Francisco Public Library Commission.

Amy Sinclair, SFPUC Public Relations Officer, has more than 20 years of experience in public relations, marketing, and strategic communications.

SFHS monthly programs are free to members. Non-member fee is $10, which may be applied to membership dues within 30 days; $5 for non-member seniors, students, K–12 teachers, and people with disabilities. Programs are normally scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month, except August and December. Programs are subject to change, so please check for updates at sfhistory.org.
