SFHS 1906 Earthquake Commemoration – April 2022

San Francisco Historical Society announces two special tours and an open house at 608 Commercial Street commemorating the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. Join us for a unique walking tour of Chinatown, and a docent-led tour of the San Francisco Historical Society Museum, and a special exhibit about the earthquake and fire. Visitors will be able to meet a curator and examine actual artifacts recovered from the rubble. Also featured will be first-person written accounts from survivors.

Hands-on Exploration of Artifacts

Meet SFHS curator Richard Everett and examine actual artifacts from the 1906 earthquake and fire from the SFHS collections. Several artifacts will be available for holding and examining.  The Curator’s Station will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Free to museum visitors.

We will also be featuring several first-person accounts of the earthquake and fire written by survivors and a collection of photographs and drawings of the disaster.

Docent- Led San Francisco Historical Society Museum Tour

See relics from the 1906 earthquake and fire, visit subtreasury vaults that survived the 1906 earthquake, discover where San Francisco’s buried ships are located, view ephemera from our world’s fairs and exhibitions, watch short documentaries in the theater, and more.

The museum is located at 608 Commercial Street, near Chinatown.
