Bringing SF History to Students

The Education Initiative Committee is working to provide educational activities and events for the youth and families of San Francisco with the aim of developing an informed and engaged population of young San Franciscans. Our current efforts focus on three areas:

  • Gold Rush walking tours for students in Grade 4
  • Neighborhood walking tours for middle school students
  • An essay contest with cash prizes for high school students (See the Fracchia Prize)

The walking tours include readiness activities in the classroom to help students make the most of their experience on the walks.

In the coming year we hope to expand the number of elementary and middle schools we work with and include students from a greater variety of neighborhoods. We are also planning to develop Family Walks for children and the adults in their lives.
