Growth of the sugar cane industry in late 19th century Hawaii helped forge a strong commercial relationship with San Francisco. Harold Tuchfeld will explore with us the growth and decline of this special relationship and the colorful personalities involved, including Claus Spreckels, James Matson, and King Kalakaua of Hawaii.

Harold Tuchfeld is a program manager for NetApp, Inc., a global hi-tech company headquartered in Sunnyvale. He formerly served as senior consulting environmental
chemist and risk assessment scientist at two prominent civil/environmental engineering consulting firms.
